Alloys and Allergies

One of the more common metal allergies that people may have is to nickel. One thing that many people do not realize, is that Surgical Stainless Steel contains a small amount of Nickel (usually 8% in jewelry). If you have only a slight allergy, then you can probably wear Surgical Stainless Steel for a few hours, or possibly all day. Or, you may be so sensitive to nickel that not only can you not wear any earrings with it in them, but also you cannot wear watches, or have the buttons on your Levi's touch your skin.

For these severely nickel-allergic people, we suggest the following alternative: Titanium- Titanium is for metal sensitive people and children or adults with newly pierced ear holes. Its neutral grey color blends well with many fashions, and will allow the sensitive to "finally wear earrings". Niobium - Niobium is not plated or painted. It is anodized, meaning it is colored by dipping it into an electrically charged "bath". Because it contains no nickel, most people with metal allergies can safely wear Niobium. Nylon - Nylon is for people that can not tolerate metal at all.

I have been shopping for products of the same high quality but for a better price I found all of the above French Hooks for a lower price and I am passing on the savings to you too.. They are beautiful !!! Still 20 ga.good and strong. Look & feel exactly the same, the only difference is the price. Also, I have added a new color (A-4 Steel Blue) I will not be carrying the ones with the 3 mm sterling silver beads anymore.They didn't look all that hot anyway having a different color bead. I will look for coils or beads that match so check back to see if I have found any. I have 6 pair of the B-2 with copper bead and I will not be getting any more. I still have the French hook (A-2) just not with the bead. The above picture is to demonstrate the sizes and colors of the new Hoop earrings that are sold below. All of the hoops are made with your choice of Titanium or Niobium ear wire. They are all available in sizes from 2" to 1/2" The Niobium hoops are 16ga and the Sterling Silver hoop is 14ga. All of the hoops with the exception of the one marked Sterling Silver are Niobium. They are all very strong and very hard to bend. I had quite a time bending them in to shape especially the small ones. Lots of fun :o)!! They are very light weight and comfortable, I made myself 2 pair and love them. Update on hoop design- 8/13/2010-I have found recently with my experience in wearing the smaller hoops I had a problem getting them hooked so I have redesigned the part in the back to look like the 2" yellow demo above.They are much easier to close. The large hoops are easy to put on with either design. I am discontinuing the 1/2" hoops as they are just to difficult to make as the niobium 16ga wire is very hard to bend that small. Also, the color gets washed out and does not hold the beautiful dark color when bent that small. I will continue making the other sizes.
